What is a Management Committee

A Management Committee is a group of people who meet once a month to monitor the running of a community based organisation. They are the people who are legally responsible and liable for the financial and legal management of the organisation. Nearly all community based organisations have a management committee. Community based management committees should reflect the makeup of the community. Therefore, members are usually people who live, work or have an interest in the Bankstown Local Government Area. One of the main benefits of being a part of a management committee is that it provides an opportunity to contribute to the running of the service and helps to ensure that the service is meeting the communities needs.

All positions on the BCRG Management Committee (including those of Office Bearers) are voluntary and unpaid. However, it is important to remember that as a management committee member you do not have to do everything, most of the work can be delegated to paid staff members of the organisation, your role is to oversee this and give staff members clear policies and procedures to follow. BCRG is a well run and staffed organisation. Clear policies and procedures are already in place and these are reviewed regularly.

BCRG has monthly management committee meetings which are scheduled at the beginning of the year. Your commitment would involve attending these meetings to discuss issues affecting the organisation and provide advice and direction on matters of policy. The day to day running of the organisation is the responsibility of the Executive Officer who reports directly to the management committee. You may also be called upon to sit on sub-committees and may also be asked to sit on interview panels when new staff are interviewed for employment.

More comprehensive information is available to anyone interested by calling Effi or Rebecca on 9796 2931.
