Bankstown Community Resource Group Inc. is an authorised provider under the Federal Government's "Helping Children With Autism Package".  This means that if your child is diagnosed with:

  • Autism Disorder
  • Asperger's Syndrome
  • Rett's Disorder
  • Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
  • Pervasive Developmental Delay

and you have been assessed as eligible for FaHCSIA funding by an "Autism Advisor" you can access our Autism specific therapy programs for your child and have them paid for by FaHCSIA.

Services Provided

BCRG can provide speech pathology and/or occupational therapy services to children with autism spectrum disorder. We offer both individual intervention and group intervention by qualified and experienced therapists.

Group Interventions

Communication Sense-ation

  • A relationship based, parent and child group therapy program conducted over 2 school terms, run by an occupational therapist (OT) and speech pathologist (SP)
  • Up to 6 families per group
  • This program focuses on building the child's ability toform positive, meaningful relatiobnships with parents, siblings and extended family members by means of activities and experiences that relate to the child's identified interests and sensory preferences.
  • Parents are supported to develop skills in engaging in positive interations with their children that will promote and enhance child behaviour, communication and success in daily routines.
  • Parents also have access to informal support from other parents.

Communication Sense-ation is a developmental, family based intervention which aims to help the child to learn to 'attend, relate, interact, experience a range of feelings and ultimately think and relate in an organised and logical manner'.

Cost per program is $2,500 per family over 2 terms.

 

More Than Words (MTW) Program

  • This program is an intensive family focused program that gives parents of children with autism practical tools to help support their child's development of communication and social skills.
  • It is run by a Hanen certified speech pathologist.
  • Courses will be offered to groups of parents and caregivers (up to 6 families per program) .

This program applies principles of family collaboration and AUTISM SPECIFIC CONTENT, staffed with trained professionals in Autism, and focuses on the communicative basis of many PROBLEM BEHAVIOURS.

Cost per program is $1,500 per family.

Individual Interventions

Shaping Our Surroundings

  • An occupational therapist and/or speech pathologist works collaboratively with families to identify and develop practical strategies to address a specific goal for their child's participation in a specific activity of community life (eg accessing shopping centres, parks, transport) or of daily living (eg. daily routines, mealtimes, toileting).
  • The program consists of 8 x 1hour sessions, including initial consultation with parents and direct observation of parent and child interactions in naturalistic settings, including community facilities, at home, and in the child's Bankstown Child Care Centre.

Cost is $1200 for 8 x 1 hour sessions.

 

Transition to School Support Services

  • An Occupational Therapist and/or Speech Pathologist collaborate with families to support a child's transition from early intervention programs to formal school settings within the Bankstown LGA.
  • This program will provide an assessment of the child, an assessment of the school environment, consultation with the family and teacher/school to inform the Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Cost is $1300 per program for 5 x 2hour sessions.

 

Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Assessment

  • Initial assessment by a Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist.
  • Assessments based on direct observation of a child's communication and sensory motor skills in naturalistic contexts including play and may utilise formal and informal assessment.
  • Includes written report and developmental Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)

Cost per session is $400 when conducted at BCRG office

$550 when conducted at child care centre or at school in Bankstown LGA

 

Therapy Based Intervention Program

  • Provision of 10 individual speech pathology or occupational therapy sessions based on goals identified in IFSP.
  • Interventions are based on communication and social skills development or sensory motor development.
  • Sessions include FAMILY COLLABORATION, including parent support and training in specific skills to support their child's development.

Cost is $1000 for a block of 10 x 1hour session when conducted at BCRG office

$1600 for block of 10 x 1hour sessions when conducted at Child Care Centre or at School in Bankstown LGA.
