Bankstown Children's Services Forum (BCSF)

The Bankstown Children’s Services Forum was established in 1990 originally as the first local child and family network in the Bankstown LGA. Today it operates to support a number of networks which have formed to focus on specific issues relating to children ages 0-14 years and their families. These include the Bankstown Child Protection Interest Group, the Bankstown Early Childhood Intervention Committee, and the Authorised Supervisors Link Up (Child Care Sector).

BCSF provides a common platform for all sectors to engage in community development activities that address child & family related issues in a holistic way. Community development initiatives employed by the forum include research and promotion of evidence based models of practice through mini seminar days and workshops. The forum also provides an annual activity to co-incide with Children’s Week which is a national event that allows an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of children’s skills, abilities, interests and talents and to reinforce their rights to fundamental services that support their health & wellbeing.

One of the most important functions of the BCSF is to ensure `the lines of communication between sectors are open and working collaboratively. With this in mind it has an established relationship with Families NSW- Bankstown Interagency Group & Bankstown Council to address gaps and issues identified via its networks.

Service providers in the Bankstown Local Government Area are welcome to join any of the BCSF networks . Any enquiries should be directed to the Children’s Services Community Development Officer.

Bankstown Child Protection Interest Group (BCPIG)

The BCPIG aims to increase awareness and act on Child Protection issues in the Bankstown LGA.

Child Protection Week is a national opportunity to highlight the universal issues of child protection and child wellbeing with our community. Since 1996 BCPIG has been offering the Bankstown community an event which aims to promote community awareness of Child Protection and to motivate people to recognise that they can have an impact in protecting all children & preventing child abuse. The activities organised are made possible through grants we successfully receive from Bankstown Council.  This event represents collaboration and partnerships between services represented within the Bankstown Child Protection Interest Group.

The Child Protection Agency Showcase is an activity of the BCPIG funded by Bankstown city council. It provides an opportunity to extend professional networks and discuss how local services have been impacted by government reforms, builds on worker understanding of their role as mandatory reporters, and aims to improve referral pathways for local families.  This event represents collaboration and partnerships between services represented within the Bankstown Child Protection Interest Group.

Service providers in the Bankstown Local Government Area are welcome to join this network. Any enquiries should be directed to the Children’s Services Community Development Officer.
